Thank you weather for making it sunny more than one day in a row, and I think this makes it officially summer (yay!) 

There is definitely a lot in store for you all over the summer, and I am making a few changes around here, and also- it is nearly my blog's 1st Birthday- I can't remember when I didn't blog at the weekends (and occasionally in the week) and I really do hope you enjoy reading my blog as much as I enjoy writing it.

Constellations Embroidery

Yay!A DIY! This is quite easy to do- it only took me an evening, and I just think it is so cute, especially as I used a small (13cm) embroidery hoop. All you need is...

-A small embroidery hoop (like I said, I went for 13cm, but it doesn't need to be exact.)

-Reasonably thick black embroidery thread

-A needle

-Fabric (preferably light coloured, although you could swap it so you are using white embroidery thread on a dark background.)

-A star map. I used this one- bit.ly/19gh0sV 

I put my fabric in my embroidery hoop, cut it down to size and quickly ran a line of stitching round to keep it tight. I then sketched out the star map backwards, so I knew where to stitch. 

I started to sew the piece, using backstitch for the outlines of the stars and then for filling them in. I used a simple running stitch to sew the joining lines. Continue all the way round, and you're done!

Wishlist 13 - June Edition

Oh dear- it seems as though my wishlists have become apology posts... I've been a little (okay, very) busy this month- revision, revision, exams and err... revision, so it has generally not been so interesting, and I wish I could have spent more time blogging :(. 

Luckily, it is nearly the summer holidays and I have planned some posts and it is also my blog's first birthday soon, and I have some exciting celebrations planned- keep an eye out!

Saturday: Another Papercut (sorryyyy)

Ok I know- I'm sorry- it's another papercut..... This one's been cut over a LONG period of time- I started this one at least a month ago, but it's finally nearly finished! (I spent last night cutting out the border whilst watching Sherlock) I just need to find a nice background for it- I think that perhaps I could try and find an old map of the UK or a nice block colour? I'm not sure.

Tuesday: Hello Summer!

Summer is by far my favourite season- we went up to Cambridge over the Bank holiday weekend, and it was beautifully sunny and all the flowers were in bloom. This wisteria is just too pretty not to take a picture of , so I did!

A Week of Photos- Monday

Monday: Officially the world's cutest bee!

I'm doing something a little different this week- I'm going to post a picture every day of what I've been getting up to, and just a few random pics that I haven't really been able to do anything with, and this bee is perfect to start this off! I caught a picture of him just before he flew off in my garden the other day, and I just smile every time I see this picture- he looks like he is waiting for a high five!

A slightly dull day of tidying and revision was made more interesting by the discovery of this behind my bookshelf- an old comic book I bought last year in a massive charity shop. I love the slightly washed out colours and the funny ads!

Wishlist 12- May Edition

Firstly, I haven't done a blog post for nearly two weeks- I have been so so so busy, but I promise I have done a bit of forward planning so I am back on track! 

Secondly, What do you think of the new social media buttons over there on your right? And also, this is the start of monthly wishlists (yay!!!) I like doing these, but please let me know what you think too, and about any other types of post you want to see more or less of -thank you :)

DIY Twisted Updo

This is a nice quick hairstyle, but it needs many bobby pins and a little hairspray, especially if your hair is thicker or longer. 

Start by combing through your hair, parting it down the middle into two reasonably equal sections.

Starting over your ear, twist one section back towards the other, starting with a small amount and adding to it. Once you reach your other ear, use some bobby pins to keep it as neat as possible, and to hold it whilst you do the other side. 

Do the same with the other side, picking up any stray leftover hair as well. Once you get to the end, tuck the hair under the first twist and secure it all with bobby pins and hairspray.

Ooh and by the way, a couple of you want to know what I wear in my DIYs, so remind me to do this!

Tee- Primark, Necklace- Urban Outfitters, Jumper- H&M (my lighting is being a little weird- this jumper is actually bright orange...)

A Mini Illustrated DIY- Pin Cushion

You will need: a jam jar (small), sharpie, stuffing, needle & thread, circle of fabric (a bit bigger than the top of your jar)

1. sew around the circle of fabric, leaving the thread loose.

2. stuff the circle, and place on top of the jam jar lid. Pull on the loose threads, tying them underneath the jam jar lid, as tightly as possible. 

3. ensure all of the sides of the fabric are securely fastened under the lid.

4. using the sharpie, label the jar (I labelled mine 'pins and needles' although anything will do)

5. put some pins in the jar, screw on the lid carefully, without breaking the fabric, and  use the top to hold pins when embarking on a sewing project!!!

I was thinking about starting a little notebook of quotes and song lyrics to use for papercuts, and I stumbled across the most beautiful song- of course I had to make a papercut for it! (by the way- i'm really sorry for the bad lighting in this photography- it got dark really early today!)

I was looking around for some inspiration today, and came across two beautiful collections of photographs- of course I was going to share them with you! The first is by Sven Fennema, and is called 'Forgotten Places'- it captures deserted, abandoned castles, churches and palaces so beautifully that I wonder why nobody else has seen their beauty before! The second series is by Leonid Tishkov, and is called 'Private moon'. I think that they are just stunning, and a really clever idea. To appreciate them properly, you might want to have a look at the poem that goes with them (photos from there too!)- here
